Apple shall charge you for updating iPad OS to v5.0

Apple iPad owners won’t be as blessed as their iPhone counterparts. You will be charged for updates to the iPad OS just like Apple did for the iPod touch. However the legal documentation mentions that one major update shall be free, i.e. v4.x. The OS v4.0 is expected to come up with the release of the next iPhone which should be sometime in June-July later this year. If all goes as rumored (:P) this would bring you multitasking.

Here is what the Apple legal doc reads:

“Apple will provide you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from time to time, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped…on your iPad, for free.
If your iPad originally shipped with iPad 3.x software, Apple would provide you with any iPad OS software…up to and including iPad 4.x.”

Another point to note here is the fact that Apple also mentions that the original iPad might not support all the features that a software upgrade brings in for newer models. HD video?
